Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.
A senior representative stated the incident left him stunned and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
